The Oak King of the Waxing Year is Dead! Long Live the Holly King of the Waning Year!
So– a previous car repair needs to be repaired. The “harmonic ring” that keeps the engine from rattling in disturbing metallic way. Taking the bus and train in this heat is draining, and takes a while to get to work. Hmmm
Multicolored pinkish, yellowish/whitish gladiolas blooming among the Queen Anne’s lace.
The poinsettia I’ve been trying to kill the last two and a half years has sprouted a few leaves on the porch. Not dead yet.
I think one row of Celtic pavers in the back I’m going to pull up, and redo that path. Round stones with patterns that were set over pine bark nuggets. Needs to be freshed up in look.
Japanese beetles still stuffing themselves.

tis the trouble with mulch is the need to refresh it often. hope your car is well soon! peace, Al
Such is the toil of of the creative gardener. My flowers are glorious this year because I have a glorious gardener. I love flowers but have no talent!
It all sounds quite lovely, Wil. Except for the beetles.
Thanks for the update. I’m out of here in a few minutes to take my car to a neighbor for muffler replacement due to road construction — perennial plague around here. We don’t have Japanese beetle problems, but other insect species are rampantly destructive. I’m paying a lot of attention to my garden this year, and being rewarded for it. Midnight sun is marvelous; mosquitoes are too much — as usual for the season.
My suggestion would be find a job near the light rail… eh, MARTA line (we call it light rail out here). Easier said than done, I know. One good thing here is we don’t have many insects, relatively, which is especially nice in the summer. But the sad side of that is no fireflies. I didn’t even think about that fact until my recent visit.
